Coffee Chat with Cathren & Carre

A Tale of Two Clutches

We love to hear your experiences with our creations. How you use them, where you take them, and how your patina process is going.

Nothing makes our day more than when someone sends us a patina photo or brings a piece by our booth that has been well loved. There’s a certain pride we take in the quality and longevity of our products, and we love to hear about your pieces getting better with time.

Cathren and Carrie have been kind enough to share their experiences and thoughts on their Natural Veg Dump Clutches.

How did you hear about Hanson Leather Co?

Cathern: My sister and I went to an event at Bleu Duck and came across your booth!

Caree: My fiancé was redeployed during COVID efforts to a pharmacy and became temporary coworkers with Josiah. On a Minnesota winter day, my sister and I made plans to go to a Bleu Duck winter pop-up. My fiancé informed us Josiah would be there displaying his leather business and recommended we stop to see him. We were so impressed with his talents and quality products that we each purchased a dump clutch!

It’s always fascinating to hear how you find our business.  Whether it’s by word of mouth, online, or you come across our booth at a market. Cathern

and Carree’s case is a bit unique thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. As you can imagine, most of our markets and events were either canceled or

moved online. The pop-up event hosted by Bleu Duck Kitchen was one of our first times we were able to get back out there. We couldn’t have been

more excited!

What caught your attention about the Dump Clutch?

Cathern: Its simplicity.  I loved its simple wrap design and its rounded structure.  It is a piece that is complete on its own but also fits easily into my other handbags.

Caree: The craftsmanship and sleek detail. I appreciate how compact it is, yet I can fit everything I need in it (money, cards, phone if needed).

What is your approach to earning your patina?

Cathern:  My dump clutch is mainly exposed to my natural hand oils and some sunshine.

Caree: The most natural approach - everyday use! After purchasing my dump clutch, I let it bask in the window light for roughly a week. Since then, I have been taking it with me shopping, to the grocery store, and date night. My natural approach is the oils from my skin mixed with daily adventures!

When you receive a product from us that is made with such a clean material as Natural Veg, it can be intimidating. We often get questions like: “How

should I care for it?” or “Should I put something on it to protect it?”. We always encourage you take the natural approach. The oils from your

hands and daily use can result in the most insane patinas we have ever seen. That’s not to say you can’t put a conditioner on it right off the bat;

however, the natural approach is our personal favorite.

When and where do you find yourself using your Dump Clutch most?

Cathern: I love how versatile my dump clutch is!  I find myself using it most when grabbing coffee, lunch out, or dinner dates.  It is a simple statement piece that allows me to hold only the necessities—card, cash, keys, and chapstick!

Caree: As I mentioned briefly above, I use my dump clutch for day-to-day activities: shopping, going out to eat, coffee with friends, gas station fill-ups. It truly is so easy to pick up and go with.

We would love to hear about your experiences with your Dump Clutch and how your patina process is coming along.
